LuchAdorA
Publication Design | Spring 2023 | Case Study
Luchadora is the Chicana experience. An accumulation of art, research, and history. Made by a Chicana,
for Chicanas.

Welcoming all who wish to take part. This publication highlights the beauty and power of Chicana culture. Celebrating our collective experiences and educating those who wish to join the fight. When creating this collection of culture, I focused on Chicana feminism and the politics it entails. This publication is an elevated seasonal publication, illustrated, written, and designed by me, Burdie.

Key to crafting this publication was defining its style and purpose. Opting to highlight my illustration prowess, I chose to illustrate the entire magazine. Ensuring a consistent illustration style was paramount, paired with typography that balanced visual appeal with effectively communicating serious topics. Avoiding clichés, I aimed for authenticity in the Chicana\o experience

Branding the magazine was a pivotal decision, with the logomark and cover serving as the initial point of engagement for viewers. Balancing the essence of Chicanas—friendly yet strong, bold yet humble—was challenging. Iterating through numerous designs, the primary focus was steering clear of clichés, I strived for representation, not stereotypes.

After countless drafts and sketches, the final outcome justified the process. This project aimed to not only represent Chicanas but also to spotlight Chicana/o art and design, blending the two seamlessly. unconventional and boundary-pushing design choices, it celebrates the emerging Chicana/o style of artwork.
